Full Text of Maurie McGarvey’s Introductory Remarks

Given November 7th, 2017

Good afternoon. Welcome to each of you, and thank you for joining us here.

My name is Maurie McGarvey, and it is my honor and privilege to offer a comment of introduction for our friend Amanda Melton as she announces her candidacy for McCracken County Coroner.

Like so many of you, I am building a life in our shared community, and I am passionate about our potential together. When I think of the leadership qualities that will be needed in the years ahead, I think of wisdom, insight and honesty. These are also qualities of an abiding friend. Someone who is reliable, steadfast and patient.

I am proud to say that Amanda IS my friend, and she exemplifies these qualities.

I have known Amanda nearly 12 years and count her among those in whom I have complete trust and respect in any situation and at all times.

Yet before she and I became friends, I came to know her as so many of you have . . . at a time of disorientation, confusion and deep grief. In the most difficult of times, I have benefited from Amanda’s compassion, judgment and sensitivity. I learned that Amanda believes deeply in the dignity of all human beings.

As a leading professional in her field, Amanda consistently demonstrates the principles of equity, mutual understanding and respect.

Her gifts of rationality, calmness and clear-headed thinking have served countless numbers of individuals in the West Kentucky region.

Amanda is called to this service because it is who she IS.

Her 25 years of experience caring for you and those who you love has prepared her for this, and she will continue to dedicate her life and her service as Coroner to each of you.

This is why I support her candidacy for McCracken County Coroner. I have the deepest personal and professional respect for Amanda. It is an honor to support her candidacy, and I ask you to join me in caring for our community by supporting HER.

It is with the utmost confidence that I say . . .

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome McCracken County’s next Coroner, Amanda Melton!
